The Otherness of Things

The boyfriend and I talked about the enormity of things a while ago and he said that he can’t wrap his head around the idea that our sun, which we already consider a gigantic entity in our universe is just the size of a pea (or even smaller) when compared to Betelgeuse.

But, for me, this knowledge is not as awe-inspiring. Sure, they’re big and we’re small. Sure, it’s a fact. But they’re not in my immediate experience so I can’t really make myself see their bigness or consider that fact as important.

To me, what’s enormous and awe-inspiring is the human soul. What’s bigger than all of these things is the human soul.

Imagine, trying to maneuver your way through the complexities of your own self or the soul of another. I feel that even a lifetime isn’t enough to know someone, or ourselves, completely.

Now, that’s big.

I’ve been reading the phrase “serious art” all over Tumblrverse and I have to admit that it makes me sad. I don’t think that just because it’s a sketch or a doodle that it’s not serious art anymore. I’m sure there was thought behind those pieces, no matter how little.

To me: Art is communication. Art is a message. Art is expression. Art is art and who’s to say that squiggly lines aren’t serious? For one person, it could be.

Sing it in a slow, scary and singsong voice…

Hi! I’ve never heard of that band or song. The line I placed in my About Me page was really just referring to the fact that I don’t show my complete face on my Tumblog but I have to make sure that people know I’m a real person. Sort of like a joke.

And yes, I do speak Tagalog, as well as Visayan and English (and a smidge of Chinese Fookien).

I think what you’re trying to say is “Marunong ba kayong gumamit ng isang tablet?” Mayroon means “Do you have…” and marunong is “Do you know…”

Marunong ako (Yes, I do know.) I use the tablet in almost all the artworks I post here. :)

Hi! Read your answer to my question and I really think that it’s a personal thing so my answer might not necessarily help you start your essay.

What I suggest is you think of the things that you’ve done that you are proudest of. It can be an academic honors you received, finished something such as a project for school or even a personal project, moments you spend with your family and friends. There are so many accomplishments that define a person and these accomplishments don’t necessarily have to be big ones.
