I was only at the Komikon for less than half the day because I had to go to Eastwood for my exhibit setup so I only got a few titles and books. I’m a bit sad about that but the great stuff I found more than makes up for it.
I absolutely love love love Rommel Estanislao’s Love Story. It’s my con favorite even before I got to read it just because I am really a fan of kuya Omeng’s works. It’s nakakakilig, heartbreaking and heartwarming all at the same time.
Other titles I loved were Macoy’s School Run which takes a zombie story to a whole new level, and MLU by Mel Casipit which is a really cute love story.
I’m also so happy that I finally got my copy of 12 by the genius storyteller Manix Abrera. I wasn’t able to have it signed by him though. I’ll just have to make sure I bring my copy of 12 during the next con.
Another surprising find is Bully Saurus Rex by Robert Magnuson. It’s not a comic book but a children’s storybook with a moral lesson and it simply called out to the preschool teacher in me. I fell in love with the illustrations and the story will certainly speak to young children (and even to adults who act like they’re children who don’t know any better).
I also got The El Bimbo Adaptations by Josel Nicolas, an experimentation with the forms of storytelling and comics, Bellboy and the Hotel Universe by my friends Arvin de Leon and Alex Sandoval, and Working Girl by another friend, Czari Flores.
I wish I had taken more pictures of the con experience but sadly, exhaustion from the exhibit setup, having to drive to and from UP over and over and manning our booth got the best of me. But, no regrets! I’m glad to be a part of the Komikon crowd for 3 years now because it has proven to be a great way to meet new people, see old friends, read new stories and feel the love (hehehe). ^_^
Can’t wait for the 2nd Komikon by the end of the year!
