You all are the best! Good luck and thanks again to all who follow my little slice of artwork on the web.
NOTE: You must be a follower or subscriber at the time of the win.
Why all this? Well, you’ve gotta write a big check with quite a few zeros at the end of it to commission art from me—and call me crazy, but I firmly believe that in a perfect world, people *should* get to own art AND do things like “pay rent”, “eat food-like substances on occasion”, and maybe even “continue to live”. Two of you can do that, the rest of you… you’re screwed. Sincerely, <3 Sam

Quiet Girl ft. Fika Fika Fika Christmas Giveaway

Yes, you read that right! Quiet Girl is holding a giveaway featuring items from  Philippine-based crafts store, Fika Fika Fika. I’ve always been in search for local independent crafts stores to promote on my blog. In this highly digitized and fast-paced society, arts and crafts and everything intricately made and written isn’t as much paid attention to as before. I like holding giveaways such as these to remind you to appreciate the little things in life and to remember what is heartfelt. Remember the days when you used to receive letters in the mail, colorful fragrant stationery from your seat mate, and the days when you took time to gather little items and trinkets for your friends and loved ones.

This Christmas, Quiet Girl and Fika Fika Fika want to share this childhood memory with you!

To get a chance to win, all you need to do are the following:

1. Be a follower of Quiet Girl’s Facebook -or- Quiet Girl.
2. Like Fika Fika Fika on Facebook -or- follow Fika Fika Fika on Google Friend Connect.
3. Comment on this entry -or- reblog this entry and mention that you have done the above.

Open to all. Contest will end on December 13, 2011.
The winner will be picked using a randomizer.
Happy Holidays and good luck!

For more information, please refer to the original blog post.

BY THE WAY! If you’re in Manila, Fika Fika Fika will be selling goods at the Brown Bag Vintage & Crafts Market this Friday. Click on the link for details. It’s the perfect place to buy Christmas gifts and handmade items! :)

Always with the most wonderful prizes on Earth. Look at all those lovely paper products. I covet.

DIY shirts trial 1

I’ve been crazy over DIY since the start of the year and it was only a matter of time until I tried my hand at making my own shirts, mostly because shirts in stores these days cost a lot IMHO.

I can’t sew or make patterns (yet) so I opted to buy a plain white shirt from The Surplus Shop in SM Megamall and some fabric paint from Deovir and National Bookstore.

I cut off the original collar to make a larger opening for my neck because I’m not a fan of tight collars when it comes to shirts.

I also got rid of the sleeves because I wanted one of those sleeveless shirts that you can create layers with. I cut the sleeves a little too low so I really have to wear something underneath.

LOL. I know it looks ridiculous and not at all elegant or polished. I hate that the material curls at the bottom because I cut off the hem. I didn’t have fabric scissors at the time so the edges were also crooked.

And this is what I painted on it yesterday. I know it looks hella weird but I have perfect excuses and they are as follows:

  1. I forgot that I had wanted to make this a girl bunny so I happily painted on glasses that make it look like a boy…
  2. but then I remembered that it was supposed to be a girl so an attempt at salvaging it led to a weird pink skirt and shoes.
  3. I had some more pink paint left on the makeshift palette I was using and I didn’t want it to go to waste so I added details like the laces on the legs and the pink inner ear parts.

Okay okay, I know. It looks really really really…confused, but I will make this work.

It grows on you…right? Right?! It’s not done yet. I’ll post the final design when I’ve added the final touches.

And here are the paints that I used for yesterday’s project and will use for future projects. For the love of all mankind, don’t buy the Jecanti Enterprise (pink, bottom far left) and the Goodmark ones because they can kill your brain cells. They stink so badly and if you do decide to use them, do it outside where the fresh air can help you breathe.

I used the pink one and in a few minutes, I was out. Literally, out cold for the next 2 hours and when I woke up, my lower jaw was shaking involuntarily and it didn’t stop for at least 30 minutes and when I opened my eyes for the first time after “losing consciousness”, I couldn’t see anything except white. Yup, all white.

The ones on top are okay though and I got those from Deovir. They don’t smell and they go on the fabric very smoothly.

At least, now I know what not to buy.

If you guys have any ideas, tips, suggestions, similar stories or whatever else you want to say, please leave me a message. I can really use the help, especially when it comes to washing and making sure the design keeps and where to get better shirts.
