I seldom go to the salon but last week, I had to attend my cousin’s wedding, so I made an appointment at the nearby Bench Fix.

And this is what she did to my hair. They had to curl it with an iron because I have really short hair compared to the model in the peg. I didn’t take as long as I thought it would and I was thankful for that.

Here’s the other side. It looks like I’m not decent here but I have a dress on, it’s just strapless.

I was really happy with how the hair turned out because 1) I could never have done it by myself and 2) it really did look beautiful. I almost didn’t want to remove the hairpins and wash my hair after.

As for my makeup, I asked the stylist to give me light smokey eyes and even showed her a peg too but I don’t think she achieved the look. I didn’t like this so much because it was a lot darker in real life. I only liked the eyeliner and mascara part because those made my eyes look bigger but the bluish eyeshadow just didn’t go so well with my dress. I’ll probably never rock the dark eye makeup look so I should just stick to natural-looking makeup.

What’s worse, when the stylist was shaving my eyebrows, she hit my nose with the razor and it left a small cut. You can’t see it here but it’s there. It’s 90% healed now and I’m just glad that they use new razors for this kind of thing.

Do any of you have recommendations for salons to go to? I’m looking for one that I can rely on for occasions like this or for regular haircuts.

I think I’ve always been in love with nail polish but since we weren’t allowed to wear it in grade school through high school, I never developed the skills or patience to paint them on myself. People also say that your nails turn yellow when you always wear nail polish and I definitely don’t want yellow nails unless it’s opaque and in a nice canary yellow shade.

However, these past few years have seen many fresh and unique shades of polish that are too pretty to resist.

Just like this gray nail polish from Diffi, which I got for only P39. How cheap is that?

It took around 3 coats to make it as opaque as I wanted it to be but that’s probably because I suck at painting my own nails and my nails aren’t very smooth. I used to bite my nails as a kid and I’m going to spend a lifetime of regretting that bad habit. (So kids, don’t bite your nails.)

What I like about the Diffi formula is that as soon as it dries, it’s pretty much damage-proof. When I press on the painted nail, I don’t leave fingerprint marks, unlike when I have my nails done in salons. Still, I’m going to wait a few days to see how long it actually lasts.

Beside the Diffi nail polish was a rack of Orly nail polish and I also wanted to get Old School Orange from the Plastix collection but decided it was just too pricey for me. I think they were being sold at P345 per bottle.

I don’t stick to just one color and its various shades when it comes to nail polish. Out of all the stuff that I can put on my body and its various parts, I’m most experimental when it comes to nail polish. With everything else, I’m a little bit more reserved. I remember that the first color of nail polish I ever bought was black, which annoyed my mom so much. I think she even asked me if I was planning to become a full-time witch. So why am I saying all of this?

Model Vanessa Matsunaga sports metallic gold nail polish and I simply couldn’t take my eyes off of it. I’ve literally thought of it, thought of buying it, for almost 12 hours now. I know it’s obsessive but it’s just so beautiful.

The only downside is it’s so expensive, in my opinion, especially for nail polish. You can either get it done at Dashing Diva (Power Plant Mall) for P2,650 or paint it on yourself with NARS’ Desperado for P995.

How can nail polish cost so much?

I guess this means I should just pray that Diffi comes out with its own metallic line but I doubt that it’ll ever happen.

Until then, I’ll just dream of metallic nails and be happy with my gray ones. That, or buy a metallic marker and just draw on my nails.
