2012 is turning out to be a year of firsts.

Anyone who knows me well knows that I would rather lounge around the house than get up and do a physical activity. I like my laziness. But a month ago, I started work for MoveForMove100, an advocacy campaign that celebrates real-life stories of people, places, and events about moving. We hope to encourage people to inspire others to start moving or keep on moving themselves.

And I guess it’s sort of worked for me, thanks to the fiance and our friend Arvin. They wanted to join RunRio’s Go Natural Run 2012 and invited me along, and I thought, why the heck not?

The reasons why I decided to join were: (1) I wanted to not fake my way through my current job, (2) We’ve agreed on doing the 3k run, which I’ve done before on occasional jogging experiences, (3) I wanted to try out something new this year, (4) I want to challenge myself, (5) I wanted to support the fiance and Arvin, and (6) Most importantly, it’s for a cause that I want to support.

Go Natural 2012 is a run for education of early age diabetes. I have loved ones who are diabetic and of course, education is dear to my heart, so it’s really supporting two things that I care about. For me, there’s no better run to start with than this.

So, tonight, all three of us headed to Riovana High Street to sign up and pay the fees. With only a week before the run, we didn’t really have many choices to choose from for the singlets so I ended up getting a LARGE in blue. If you happen to be in Bonifacio Global City on January 15 at 6am, and see a tiny girl wearing a big singlet, that’s probably me. Wish me luck!

Do you run too? And are you joining this run?

Side-topic: We’re actually chronicling Arvin’s progress as he trains for the Dream Marathon on March 18. He joined the marathon training with only 3 months to spare, while the other Dream Marathoners started with 6 months! It was really crazy but we’re rooting for him and helping him as much as we can. Watch his videos here, here, here, and here.

I’ll be with the rest of the Ripple100 team at The Bull Runner Dream Marathon Bull Circle event in R.O.X. Bonifacio High Street later tonight to chronicle stories for MoveforMove100. Registration starts at 6:30pm and the talk starts at 7pm.
Hear stories from Miriam Valero (TBR Dream Alumna) and Coach Jim Saret (prep for a marathon).
You can give us your stories of running, biking, and swimming as well. Just look for anyone who has this pin. We’ll be more than happy to listen to you and capture your story!
This event is free and open to the public so come and join us!

And if you’re curious, Ripple100 believes in the power of stories. Our first advocacy campaign is called MoveforMove100 (new format by January 2012) and here, we capture characters, stories and events that get you to run, bike, and swim. Basically, a move for move.

If you’re interested to watch the videos that we already have up and get to know more about us, please check out our website.

Some of the photos I took during Unilab’s Run United 2 and Ripple100’s story world experiment are up on MoveforMove.org.
You’ll also find the results we got from the marshmallow experiment and some facts that were concluded from it in infographics form, made by the boyfriend, as well as a time lapse of the social mural that inspired runners to draw and write their running story.
Please check it out and maybe you’ll think of your own running story to tell and contribute. For now, you can share this story world with your family and friends and maybe inspire them to start living a healthier, more active lifestyle.
